Our Mission

Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation with supporters in over 150 countries around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to the community and the environment.

We are a not–for–profit organisation seeking to promote a better way to eat, celebrating the rich food traditions of Wales, and protecting our edible biodiversity. We engage members of the public, food producers, chefs, businesses, academics and a global network, spreading and enacting our philosophies internationally and locally.


Ark of Taste

Our Ark of Taste programme is a collection of British foods which are in danger of being lost, such as unusual varieties of fruits and vegetables, rare breeds of animals, artisan cheeses and traditional recipes. By promoting these products and the traditions and knowledge that surrounds them, we hope that future generations will still be able to access their local culinary culture. This programme is part of the International Ark of Taste, and are thus officially recognised as holding a unique place within the history and culture of a particular region and in need of protection.


Chef Alliance

Our Chef Alliance programme is a large group of chefs who are committed to the Slow Food philosophies and pro-actively put them into practices within their own restaurants and businesses. Slow Food sets up unique relationships between chefs and Forgotten Foods producers, giving the public rare opportunities to sample the incredible products within our programme, and granting these producers a wider platform for educating people about the history of their products. The chefs take pride in promoting small-scale producers, and using good quality, locally-sourced, sustainable foods.


Educational Projects

We run a number of educational projects which aim to spread the Slow Food message as widely as possible and engage different age groups into the movement.

Slow Meat

The way meat is currently produced and consumed is unsustainable. Our solution: eat less and better meat, pay a fair price and always consider the origin.

Food and Taste Education

Slow Food believes that by understanding where our food comes from, how it was produced and by whom, we can learn how to appreciate the cultural and social importance of food.

Slow Food Youth Network

The Slow Food Youth Network (SFYN) is a worldwide network of young people creating a better future through food. It unites groups of young food enthusiasts in public debate about current issues.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the variety of plant and animal life in the world or in a particular habitat, a high level of which is usually considered to be important and desirable. We believe the protection of biodiversity to be of utmost importance.

Climate Change

Let’s Not Eat Up Our Planet! In order to stop climate change, we must change the industrial food production system, based on profit and the indiscriminate exploitation of natural resources, and restore value to food.

Family Farming

Slow Food believes that family farms can play a key role in addressing many of the serious food problems affecting our planet. Smallholder farmers grow a wide variety of species and hold essential knowledge about their cultivation.
